Dr. Harrop is Associate Professor of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Co-Associate Director of Acute Care for the RSCICDV. He is the Division Director of the Neurological Spine and Peripheral Nerve Surgery. Dr. Harrop graduated cum laude from Jefferson Medical College in 1995.

Afterward, he completed his residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 2001. He subsequently went to the Cleveland Clinic and completed a combined Neurosurgery and Orthopedic Spine Fellowship in complex spine diseases. He is board certified in Neurosurgery.

He currently works with basic scientists at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University on spinal cord injury regeneration research. He works extensively nationally and internationally on trials for SCI patients and is the PI on several active studies on SCI including stem cell therapies. He has published and presented on numerous occasions his work in spinal surgery and spinal cord injury.

He is an active member of the Congress on Neurosurgeons (where he serves on the Executive Board), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, Cervical Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society.
