Dr. Formal is Clinical Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University, receiving a Dean’s Citation for his contributions to education. He has been a member of Magee’s Medical staff since 1982.

He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1979, and he is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabiliation.

As an expert in spinal cord injury, Dr. Formal has lectured and published extensively on this topic. He has published numerous papers and abstracts.

Dr. Formal serves as Program Director at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital's Residency Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and he also teaches future physicians as Co-Director for Medical Student Education in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Jefferson Medical College.

He is a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists and serves as an examiner for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
